When making plans to travel, whether you are visiting some distant or exotic destination or just going across the country, there are a few things to keep in mind. In these cases, you will feel a sense or urgency and possibly some stress, but it will be short lived, as you'll be on your vacation very soon afterwards. The short whirlwind of organizing and planning it all will be followed by a relaxing break from your day to day stresses.

There are actually some benefits that you might not expect when organizing your trip at the last minute. It is common knowledge that booking flights and hotel reservations well in advance is usually a great way to get the best rate possible. However, booking at the last minute can sometimes be just as financially beneficial.

Airlines and hotels always have a number that they want to reach when booking seats or rooms. If they are below that number then they are missing out on some money. For this reason they will often offer last minute deals accomodation or air travel which creates a win-win situation for both the company and you, the traveller. They still get some money, and you get the savings!

When booking last minute deals accomodation, you may find that they are only available on certain hotels. Still, you may be able to stay in a nicer hotel at the same rate you would normally pay at a hotel of a lower standard. If you are flexible with where you stay and possibly with the dates of your stay, you can find a real bargain.

Booking your hotel accommodation last minute is also a great idea when you just plan to visit a friend of family member, and aren't actually going on a big vacation. Any time you need a place to stay, if you are flexible you can book your hotel accommodation at the last minute and find a good bargain.

Whether you are travelling at the last minute on purpose or it came up unexpectedly, you will be able to find hotel rooms on offer for a lower rate when the hotel has not been fully booked before hand. And you will keep some of your hard earned money to use toward something less mundane than a place to sleep!
